Gathered was gathering long before it had a name
Before I became a celebrant, I had already spent much of my life listening for the story underneath the story.
I’m a queer woman, culturally and spiritually grounded, and someone who has always been deeply curious about people: who we are, where we come from, what we carry and what helps us feel connected. Across my work and my life, I’ve developed a deep understanding of story, emotion and all the beautiful nuance that exists between the words people speak.
I notice the quiet things. The look exchanged across a room. The wobble in someone’s voice. The family history sitting gently beneath a single sentence. I can usually sense when a moment needs more space, when someone needs steadying or when a room is ready for laughter.
That intuition is a big part of what I bring to ceremony. But it hasn’t appeared from nowhere. It has been shaped by culture, community, spirituality, lived experience and a long history of sitting with people through some of life’s most tender and transformative moments.
In many ways, celebrancy feels like a natural meeting place for everything I know and love: story, people, connection, emotion and the careful holding of moments that matter.
How celebrancy found me
I believe some things drop into our lives for a reason.
A few months before I was asked to facilitate my first wedding, I’d felt this little spark of curiosity about becoming a celebrant. I found myself wondering what it might look like to bring all the skills I already held into ceremony. I even started researching what it would take to become qualified.
Then, a few months later, two people very close to my heart asked if I would facilitate their wedding.
It felt like one of those moments when life gives you a gentle—but fairly obvious—nudge.
So, I enrolled. I studied, completed approximately a billion role-plays and unofficially married almost my entire neighbourhood along the way. Then came the enormous privilege of standing beside people I loved and helping them mark one of the most meaningful moments of their lives.
From the studying and practice ceremonies to those first beautiful weddings, this work has always been about gathering people together.
And that is still at the heart of everything I do.
I believe connection is medicine. I believe love—in all its forms—can be healing, transformative and profoundly powerful. I believe ceremony gives us a way to pause within the busyness of life and say: This matters. These people matter. This story is worth honouring.
Gathered exists to create those moments.
It is a place for stories with texture, ceremonies with feeling and people who want to be seen as their whole selves. It is warm, grounded and deeply personal—with plenty of room for laughter, tears, unruly family members and whatever else the day happens to bring.
I feel incredibly lucky that this work found me.
Or, perhaps, that we found each other.
